North Coast Village Vacation Rental Guide: What to Know Before You Stay
If you're planning a beach vacation in Oceanside, California, North Coast Village is one of those places where it's easy to settle in, slow down and actually feel like you're at the beach.
You're not loading the car every morning to get to the ocean. The beach is right outside. You can walk to Oceanside Harbor, stroll down to the pier and downtown, spend the afternoon by the pool, and come home to watch the sun disappear over the Pacific from your own balcony.
We've been owners at North Coast Village for more than 25 years, and it's become a very special place for our family. Over that time, we've also learned a few things about how to make the most of a stay here.
So, if you're considering a North Coast Village vacation rental, here's our guide to what to know before you arrive — along with a few of our favorite ways to enjoy Oceanside.
North Coast Village is a gated beachfront condominium community at 999 N. Pacific Street in Oceanside, located between Oceanside Harbor and downtown Oceanside.
One of the things we love most about staying here is that you really don't have to plan very much.
Want to spend the day at the beach? Walk downstairs and you're there.
Want to swim? Head to the pool.
Hungry? Walk over to the harbor or into downtown Oceanside.
And when the day is winding down, one of our favorite places in Oceanside is actually right at home: sitting on our balcony watching the sunset over the Pacific.
That's a pretty good day in our book.
Our two-bedroom, two-bathroom Oceanside vacation rental is located on the second floor of North Coast Village, with elevator access and beautiful ocean views.
The condo sleeps a maximum of five guests and includes a king bed in the primary bedroom, two twin beds in the second bedroom and a queen sofa sleeper.
You'll also find two bathrooms with walk-in showers, a fully equipped kitchen, private Wi-Fi, TVs, dining table for six, bed and bath linens, an electric fireplace and plenty of the little things that make a week at the beach easier.
The kitchen includes a full-size refrigerator, stove and oven, microwave, dishwasher, coffee maker, toaster, blender, cookware, dishes, utensils and basic spices.
But the thing that makes our condo special to us isn't really something on an amenities list.
It's the view.
From the balcony, you can look directly toward the Pacific, watch the whitewater rolling toward shore, see surfers waiting for the next wave and look south toward the Oceanside Pier.
And then there are the sunsets.
You'll understand once you've seen one.

This is one of the questions people naturally have when looking for an Oceanside beachfront vacation rental:
How close are we actually going to be to the beach?
The answer here is: very close.
From our condo, take the elevator or stairs to the ground floor and walk through North Coast Village toward either the north or south beach access.
From the condo to having your feet in the sand is about a three-minute walk.
Even better, you don't need to pack your entire garage for a beach vacation. We provide beach chairs, boogie boards, an umbrella, beach towels, sand toys and other useful beach gear.
Grab what you need, walk downstairs and go.
One reason we especially like North Coast Village for families is that the beach isn't the only thing to do.
The property has a large swimming pool, two hot tubs, an exercise room, sauna, recreation room with pool and ping pong tables, BBQ areas, picnic tables, laundry facilities, tropical gardens and koi ponds.
Your unit key includes a fob that provides access to the pool, hot tubs and gym.
Pool and hot tub hours are Sunday through Thursday from 9 AM to 10 PM and Friday and Saturday from 9 AM to 11 PM.
The gym and recreation room are open Monday through Thursday from 6 AM to 11 PM, Friday and Saturday from 6 AM to midnight, and Sunday from 8 AM to 11 PM.
One little tip we've learned over the years: go to the pool in the morning. It's usually quieter and is a wonderful way to start the day.

When we have kids staying with us, their itinerary tends to become pretty predictable:
Beach. Pool. Hot tub. Repeat.
And that's exactly why we love it.
You don't have to pack everyone into a car every time someone wants to do something different.
Spend the morning building sandcastles, surfing or boogie boarding. Walk back to the condo for lunch. Head to the pool in the afternoon. Finish with a soak in the hot tub.
For parents and grandparents, there's something pretty wonderful about having all of that right outside your door.
Another advantage of staying at North Coast Village is the location.
Oceanside Harbor is about a 15-minute walk from our condo.
Once you're there, you'll find coffee, breakfast, lunch and dinner spots, ice cream, snacks and local shops. It's also a fun place to simply wander around the marina and watch the boats come and go.
It's one of our favorite easy morning walks.
Grab a coffee, walk along the water and take your time getting back.
You're on vacation.
Head south instead and it's roughly a 20-minute walk to the Oceanside Pier.
From the pier, continue another 10 minutes or so and you'll be in the heart of downtown Oceanside, where you'll find restaurants, coffee shops, breweries, shopping and plenty to explore.
The pier has been part of Oceanside's story for generations and is one of those places we think everyone should experience at least once while they're here.

If you're there on a Thursday morning, stop by the local farmers market. And we're always happy to make a detour for something sweet at Parlor Doughnuts.
Downtown Oceanside has changed tremendously over the years, and there's always something new to discover.
Oceanside's food scene is another reason we love coming back.
For sushi, one of our favorites is Wrench & Rodent Seabasstropub. It's creative, fresh and a little unexpected — exactly what we like about it.
For a great dinner out, Flying Pig Pub & Kitchen is another favorite.
And if tacos sound better after a day at the beach, we've recently become big fans of The Taco Stand on South Coast Highway.
There are plenty more choices around the harbor, Coast Highway and downtown, so you could easily spend a week here without eating at the same place twice.

If your trip happens to fall on the first Friday of the month, it's worth seeing what's happening around town.
The Oceanside Art Walk brings together local artists, makers and the community around Artist Alley. It's a fun way to experience a side of Oceanside you might miss on a typical beach vacation.
We also love First Fridays at Tremont Collective, where you can shop from small local vendors, listen to music, grab some food and just enjoy the local vibe.
And Thursdays are worth remembering too. Between the morning farmers market and other events around downtown, they're a great day to explore Oceanside on foot.
There's obviously plenty to do without ever leaving North Coast Village, but the ocean has a way of tempting you to do a little more.
On a recent family trip, we decided to go deep-sea fishing for our grandson's birthday. It turned into one of those vacation days we'll be talking about for a long time.
We caught bonito, rockfish, sheephead, lingcod and more, brought fresh fillets home and ate our catch that night.

If you'd rather cook dinner and eat on the balcony, the condo has a full kitchen.
There's a Walmart approximately eight minutes away by car for groceries and vacation essentials. Trader Joe's and Costco are both roughly 18 minutes away.
We especially like having the kitchen when we're staying for a full week.
Go out when you want to. Cook when you don't.
But save at least one dinner to eat outside while the sun goes down.
This one's easy.
The balcony.
Pour a glass of wine, make a drink, put together some appetizers or bring dinner outside.
Then just sit.
You can watch the light change over the Pacific, listen to the waves and see the sun drop toward the horizon without leaving the condo.
Sometimes the best part of a vacation isn't another activity.
It's finally having nowhere else you need to be.
If friends were staying at our condo for the first time, we wouldn't give them a complicated itinerary.
Wake up, make some coffee and look at the ocean.
Then head downstairs and spend the morning on the beach. Read a book. Build a sandcastle. Go surfing. Take a walk along the water.
Come back for lunch.
Spend the afternoon at the pool and hot tub.
And when evening arrives, head back upstairs, grab something to eat and watch the sunset from the balcony.
That's it.
That's a pretty perfect Oceanside day.
Weekdays are our favorite beach days. Monday through Friday is generally quieter than the weekend, although the beach directly in front of North Coast Village can still be very enjoyable when Oceanside gets busier.
The pool tends to be quietest in the morning.
And don't feel like you have to schedule every day of your vacation.
One of the biggest advantages of staying directly at the beach is being able to wake up and decide what you feel like doing.
Sometimes that's exploring San Diego.
Sometimes it's fishing, surfing or walking into Oceanside.
And sometimes it's doing absolutely nothing.
Check-in begins at 3 PM and checkout is at 10 AM.
When you first arrive, park in the front parking lot while you pick up your keys and parking pass. The condo includes an assigned covered parking space during your stay.
If you arrive between 3 PM and 4:30 PM, enter through the gate near the security shack, continue straight and go upstairs to the Homeowner's Office. You'll need to show photo identification, and you'll receive a packet containing two sets of keys and your parking pass.
If you arrive after 4:30 PM, your key packet can be picked up at the front security shack after showing your photo ID.
When you leave, return your keys to the key drop near the Homeowner's Office.
North Coast Village is a gated property with 24-hour live security, another feature we appreciate.
North Coast Village does not allow smoking on the property or inside the units, and pets are not permitted in rental units.
Quiet hours are taken seriously, particularly after 10 PM, and occupancy rules are enforced. Our condo accommodates a maximum of five guests.
We think that's a good thing. Everyone is there to enjoy the beach, and having considerate neighbors makes the experience better for everybody.
We've talked about the location, pool, beach, harbor and all the things you can do.
But that's not really what makes this place special to us.
It's the smell of the ocean.
It's waking up to the sound of the sea, looking outside and seeing the morning sun sparkling on the waves and watching happy surfers waiting for the next set to roll in.
It's spending the day barefoot at the beach.
It's coming home, sitting on the balcony and watching another California sunset disappear over the Pacific.
And then it's opening the windows at night and falling asleep to the sound of the waves.
That's North Coast Village to us.
And we love being able to share it.
Our two-bedroom North Coast Village condo can be booked directly with us.
During June, July and August, there is currently a seven-night minimum stay. Outside the summer season, the minimum is generally five nights, and monthly rates are negotiable. The condo accommodates a maximum of five guests. Current rates vary by season.
There is a $225 cleaning fee, a $350 fully refundable security deposit, and applicable California lodging taxes.
We're very responsive and happy to answer questions before you book. More importantly, we genuinely want the people who stay here to love and enjoy this place as much as we do.

Is North Coast Village directly on the beach?
Yes. North Coast Village is a beachfront property. From our condo, it's about a five-minute walk through the property to the sand.
Does North Coast Village have a swimming pool and hot tubs?
Yes. Guests have access to a large swimming pool and two hot tubs, along with a gym, sauna, recreation room and other amenities.
Does our North Coast Village vacation rental include parking?
Yes. One assigned covered parking space is included during your stay.
Can you walk from North Coast Village to Oceanside Harbor?
Yes. We typically allow about 15 minutes to walk from our condo to the harbor.
Can you walk from North Coast Village to the Oceanside Pier?
Absolutely. We typically allow about 20 minutes to walk south to the pier, with downtown Oceanside another roughly 10 minutes beyond it.
Is North Coast Village good for families?
We think it's fantastic for families. Having the beach, pool and hot tubs all together makes it easy to have a fun day without constantly getting everyone into the car.
What beach equipment comes with our condo?
We provide beach chairs, boogie boards, an umbrella, beach towels, sand toys and other useful beach gear.
